OCMW Menen

In Belgium, the OCMW offers a wide range of social services, from financial and medical support to housing and legal advice. As part of their offering, they also manage several care homes for the elderly. In 2014, OCMW Menen started the construction of Andante, a new residential care center on the edge of the city. Because they wanted to offer their residents a comfortable home, they looked for a service provider who could help them set up an IPTV solution in the room.

Challenge

As a system integrator with almost 40 years of experience in solutions for hospitals, hotels, prisons and many more, Oscart had a deep understanding of all the possibilities that IPTV had to offer. They challenged the OCMW to think beyond in-room entertainment and consider the ways in which Philips Professional Displays could be used to improve the daily lives of residents, without creating additional work for Andante's staff.

Solution

To achieve this, Oscart implemented a complete solution that meets the needs of the care center, its residents and their visitors. The new setup included Philips televisions in the room, displays and signage in common areas, touch applications for easy interaction. As promised, the new system goes far beyond in-room entertainment. Oscart, for example, created a customized information channel for Andante. The easy-to-use content management system allows staff to provide residents with updates via their televisions, such as daily menus and upcoming events. The in-room televisions are also linked to a touchscreen service at reception, the People Locator. When visitors arrive, they use the screen to indicate who they are visiting, automatically alerting the resident that a visitor is on their way. It is even possible to send photos and personal messages via the same system.
